OUR LEGENDS CORNER: Pa Dembo Touray

The legendary Gambia all time goalkeeper Pa Dembo Touray was born in Banjul The Gambia in March 31, 1980. He has a great personality,bold and has great leadership values.

The legendary veteran is a former Gambian football goalkeeper and national team player for Gambia. One of the best football exports the country has ever produced in entirety.

Pa Dembo started his senior football career with the all whites Real De Banjul in 1998 after leaving Sait Matty fc. He stay at Real de Banjul for two seasons and help the win the league in 1998 and 2000.

However, Touray was destined for greater heights as he pursue his objectives of being a professional player. In 2000 he traveled to Stockholm in Sweden to play for Djurgårdens IF, playing in the highest domestic league Allsvenskan. He stayed at Djurgårdens IF from 2000 to 2011 making a staggering 195 appearance and scoring once.

Touray spent two respective loan spells at Assyriska FF and Vålerenga IF. In 2001 – 2002 season, Assyriska IF were able to acquire his services on loan making 59 appearance for the club. He joined Vålerenga IF in 2004 on a season long loan making 11 appearance there.

He returned to Djurgårdens IF following the departure of Swedish international goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson. Touray was handed an extended run in the team, and since maintained his position as first-choice goalkeeper at the club, portraying his excellent performances warranting his reward as club captaincy after several seasons of consistency and following the 2011 season was selected as the top goalkeeper in the Allsvenskan. At the conclusion of the 2011 season.

Making him the most celebrated fan-favorites of Djurgårdens IF, having stayed at the club for more than a decade & during one of the club’s most successful spells in history .

Touray finally left Djurgårdens IF to join Santos F.C. (South Africa) 2012 and spent there 3 seasons making 62 appearance there,

Touray made his debut with the national football team( the scorpions) in 2001 and consistently till 2010. he is been capped 25 times.

Touray won the Superettan in 2000, He won the Allsvenskan twice in 2003 and 2005. He won the Svenska Cupen twice in 2004 and 2005. he also won the fans player of the year twice ( Årets Järnkamin ) in 2006, 2010

Touray is also well known for singing the West African song “Kamala, Kamala Vesta” as a victory chant, sung by Touray & repeated by the singing stand, which has become a tradition for the club ever since.
