The Gambia midfielder Sulayman Marreh has joined KAA Gent on a three-and-a-half-year deal from Belgian rivals KAS Eupen.
The 23-year-old played 41 games for Eupen, who he initially joined on loan from English club Watford in 2018 before signing permanently at the start of the season.
Marreh started his career in The Gambia with local clubs Abuko United and Samger United before moving to Spanish side Granada in 2017.
“Sulayman is a young defensive midfielder who is strong at getting the ball back but also has a lot of footballing ability,” the club’s sporting manager Peter Verbeke said.
“Sulayman is someone we have been following for a very long time. Under Claude Makelele (former Eupen coach) he played at a very high level last season and we assume that he will be able to fully develop that potential at KAA Gent.”
