It was a sweet revenge for FC Warriors as they defeated Late Ebrima Sowe 2-1 on Friday to claim the 2019 Canon Group sponsored Banjul League Trophy.
The game played at the KG5 Mini Stadium saw FC Warriors opening the scoring less than a minute on the clock as MoLamin Manneh converted penalty. Late Ebrima Sowe did found a way back into the game with a well taking goal by Jimmeh Mangasuba in the 22nd minutes. However FC Warriors restore their lead when Wuri Kabi Kanteh volleyed home what prove to be the winner 8 minutes from time.
FC Warriors got a dream start in the game when they were awarded a penalty 17 seconds after the start as the Central Referee points to the spot following a hand ball in the Late Ebrima Sowe box, MoLamin Manneh step forward to blase a powerful shoot into the roof of the net to give his side the lead.
From then on it was all Late Ebrima Sowe as the Warriors try to protect their slider lead by allowing Late Ebrima Sowe have most of the possession and they (Warriors) rally on counter attacks. The tactics did not work out well for them as Late Ebrima Sowe found a way back into the game in the 22 minutes when Jimmeh Mangasuba show lot of strange against a Warriors defender before slotting the ball pass the helpless Pa Ebou Dampha in goal for the Warriors. At the break it was a square as the referee bring to an end what was an entertaining half of football.
The second half was even more entertaining as both sides go out in search for a winner with Late Ebrima Sowe’s young star Yunusa Sowe dictating the play from midfield and winning the admiration of many naturals.
However it was FC Warriors that show greater determination in the later part of the game as Late Ebrima Sowe looks to have been content with penalty shootouts to decide the winner.
But little did know that FC Warriors had other ideas as they pushed forward for a winner and got their reward.
