SOME THOUGHTS ON THE GAMBIA VS ANGOLA MATCH

By Sheikh Tijan

First I might be to be blunt but going forward we need more assuring goalkeeping display more than what we have seen Yesterday and bar Our friendly games against Morocco and Guinea we have seen such similar mistakes often in our games. Confidence low and mistakes costly.

Secondly we still have lapses in our midfield, the transition is slow and the defense-splitting passes and a tidy build up play to the opposition half virtually inexistent.

Possibly Tom recognized that deficiency or should I say lack players with that profile in his squad with the exception of (Bun Sanneh I haven’t seen enough of Sinyan but he showed glimpses of his passing abilities and runs) and set up an athletic midfield and was being too direct trying to use the pace of Assan and lamin Jallow.

He Tom played so conservative in the first have not willing to take too many risks may be in cognizant of the fact that in all his home games he conceded first and used similar tactics in his last wins thus wanted continuity and it didn’t work well thus it failed.

Going forward Assan was over used with too many long balls for him to chase. lamin Jallow is always “Beck” got guts and pace but his confidence/arrogance which is good sometimes but sometimes cost the collective vibe of our forward line dearly.

He Tom must have thought a lot about the last sub over bringing Baboucarr Jobe or Yusupha Njie. Jobe probably got the notch because his cameo performances against Benin, Algeria and Morocco. Tom should have been more bold when Simone was injured to switch Sohna to right back and bring both Yusupha Njie and Baboucarr Jobe.

But again possibly his conservative sub of like for like bringing Bojang must have been greatly influenced by the lost Vs 10
Man Togo when he took off a defensive minded Ebou Adams for an Attacking player and subsequently lost.

Ebrima colley have shown that he got what it takes to start more regularly, if lamin Jallow can get his audacity more to the service of the collectivity of the team and Assan ( Who has solidified his stance for being the no 9 of the team) receives better service, hopefully Yusupha does what he does at Boavista I am confident we can turn the tie in Luanda but more importantly beat Djibouti in the double header next month for a ticket to be part of Group D for AFCON 2021 qualifiers as that’s our most realistic attainable target.
Finally on another day we could have had three Penalties and Angola 1 but the Nigerian panel inexplicably waved on all four Appeals.
