Injured Scorpions Captain Arrives in Algeria to Inspire Teammates

The injured Scorpions Captain, Pa Modou Jagne has arrived in Algeria for Gambia’s final round qualifier against Algeria on Friday. Nda as he is fondly called, refuses to let chance dictate the fate of his cruciate knee ligament injury.

The Skipper 29, has earlier-on confirmed to The Chronicle that he won’t be available for this crunch tie due to injury. The left-back missed out on FC Zurich’s past eleven matches in the Swiss Super League. However, he featured in all of the Scorpions’ previous five qualifiers.

“It is very sad that I couldn’t play in this very historic match, but again I’m pleased to be here to motivate them. I arrived in Algeria today to help the team in any way I could,” Jagne told The Chronicle. “This game is very important as it determines our qualification for our maiden appearance in an African Cup of Nations competition. So I wish the team all the very best of luck.”

Pa Modou’s presence is expected to boost the morale and confidence of the players.

Meanwhile, Gambia’s quest for a maiden African Cup of Nations appearance hangs in the balance as they need nothing less than a win on Friday and prays the other fixture involving Togo and Benin to end in a stalemate in order to qualify.

Scorpions are currently bottom in group D with five points, just below Togo on goal difference. They’re just two points away from second-placed Benin. Algeria have already secured qualification for the finals in Egypt.
