KOMBO CENTRAL II NOORAN KICKED OFF IN GRAND STYLE

The much awaited and much talked about Kombo Central II PEACE, LOVE AND UNITY TOURNANENT kicked-off in a spectacular fashion on Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Marakissa Village.

A tournament which will see sixteen teams from the villages of Manduar, Penyem, Busura, Dimbaya, Darsilami, Kabekel, Marakissa, Bakary Sambou, Kassakunda, Kitty, Jamwelly, Bagiran, Busuranding, Brikama Madina, Brikama Fulla Kunda, Seyone as well as a star studded veterans team to be captained by the ubiquitous and super energetic under 17 player in Adama James Jarju of Busura (who is in his 50s) and Lt. Colonel (Oga sir, pardon me if you’re now General without my knowledge) Momodou Lamin Sambou commonly called Mano the Mano, Kucholingho (don’t mind my spellings.

Manduar Women’s team

I was not taught how to spell this name in school), Rebook among other names I can’t list here. The Opening game was preceded by an exhibition match between Manduar Women’s team and Kitty Women’s team.

Kitty Women’s Team

Manduar’s under 13 player Diminga Mendy better known as Kinneh (daughter of Manduar’s veteran Central II flank player, Pierre Mendy of blessed memory) netted an opener in the 2nd minute of play. Kitty fought hard for an equaliser which only came in the dying minute through Jankey Bojang’s deflected corner kick.

Manduar Male Team

The game ended a goal apiece. Dominic Mendy coached the Manduar female team while Simon Gomez was his counterpart on the Kitty bench. In the opening match proper, between Kassa Kunda and Penyem, the dignitaries and spectators were entertained from the word go to the last minute by the players. It was a day of the Badjie Bassens. Kassa Kunda had 6 out of their 11 players who were Badjies and it was no surprise statistically that one of the goal scorers would be a Badjie.

Kitty Male Team

Ask why so many Badjies in the Kassa Kunda team on a live ball to ball commentary during the game, Emarreh (Ebrima Marreh) one of the Media Officers of Central II and a native of the village, responded saying, “all players in the team fought for their positions.

Kassa Kunda Male Team

No one is favoured to be on that pitch.” Penyem took the lead through Dawda Badjie’s spot kick in the 9th minute.

Kassa Kunda replied 16 minutes later in the 25 minute through Yankuba Badjie, the bother of the fleet footed left footer Yaya Badjie, who won the admiration of the spectators with his dazzling skills. On Sunday, Manduar and Kitty male teams settled for a goalless draw.

This coming weekend all roads lead to Busura when Darsilami will lock horns with Busura on Friday with some cultural razxmatazz expected at best on the day. Saturday is a game free day as the community of Central II will be in Kitty Village for the village’s League final between Borehole of Marakissa and Kitty Fula Kunda. Don’t wait to be told.
