Malang Jassey’s last grasp instigates Gunjur win over Immigration

It was winger-wizard Malang Jassey, alias Uncle’s last grasp stunning strike that inspired Gunjur United to a slender 1-0 victory over Immigration in the 2018-2019 Gambia Football Federation (GFF) second division league played at the Brikama Box Bar Mini Stadium on Friday.

The Gunjur-based club are with 15 points and Immigration with 12 points before their weekend crunch clash. Immigration dominated the first half and made some occasional goal scoring attempts but squandered them. Gunjur United also created some goal scoring chances but failed to utilize on their limited opportunities thus the first half ended goalless.

Resuming from the first half, Gunjur United regrouped themselves and pile pressure on Immigration, creating numerous goal chances. Winger Malang Jassey’s last grasped strike was enough to earn Gunjur the vital three points.

Immigration fought back for an equalizer but couldn’t break through Gunjur United’s solid defence line, ending the game in 1-0.

The victory earn Gunjur United third-place in the second tier with 18 points after ten league matches and one point behind second-spot Waa Banjul , who clinched 19 points in ten league matches.

Bakau giant killers drew goalless with bottom-place Lions of Banjul at the Independence Stadium in Bakau and Team Rihno also drew goalless with Latrikunda United at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium.

Kiang West beat second-place Waa Banjul 2-1 at the Banjul KG5 Mini Stadium while Serrekunda East Bi drew goalless with Young Africans at the Serrekunda East Mini Stadium and relegated side Bombada defeated Jambanjelly United 1-0 at the Box Bar Mini Stadium in Bakau.
